Attach the Roof Truss on Top of the Block Wall

A ledger is to be installed on top of a block wall before you can attach the roof trusses to it.

Instructions

1. The width of the block and the length of the wall are measured.

2. The board is measured and cut for the length of ledger for the wall.

3. A mark is made 1 ½ inches inward from the end of the board and a line is snapped. This is repeated on the other opposite edge.

4. Along the length of the chalk lines marks are made every 12 inches with the pencil and pilot holes are drilled on each mark.

5. The ledges are set on top of the block wall and drilled into the block through the pilot holes.

6. The ledger is secured by driving a 3 1/2-inch concrete screw into the block.

7. After marking the location of the roof trusses, they are set and secured with a joist hanger using the hammer and nails.

This step is repeated to attach the remaining trusses.

Instructions

Site Preparation and Foundation

1. Clear the building site using ax, chainsaw, pry bar, pick and shovel. After measuring cabin dimensions they are marked on the ground.

2. With a pick and shovel a foundation trench is dug and filled with cement.

Build the Cabin

1. After laying the first logs on all sides, they are connected at the corners with saddle notches. The floor joists are installed and walls are raised.

2. Windows and door openings are created. Using a full-length beam at the top and keeping the sides aligned at these openings with scrap lumber or vertical logs a frame is formed. Roof rafters and joists are installed when the walls are finished.

3. Boards are placed across joists for floor. Split-cedar shingles are made with ax and nailed to roof frame. Windows are installed and planks are nailed to cross braces to create a door.

Painting the lacquer furniture

Lacquered furniture has always been in great demand, as they are considered to last much longer. They are also very easy to maintain, and do not cost additional maintenance expenditure for the owner.

Painting lacquered furniture is difficult, as repainting glossy furniture does not help a great deal. The paint fades away very fast, still there are few tried and tested ways to paint lacquered furniture.

Here are they.

• Use 220grit sandpaper to peel glossiness off the surface.

• Wash with soap and water to finish the cleaning process. Use towel and let the furniture dry.

• Use stain blocking primer before you paint the lacquered surface. A stain blocking primer is essential to protect wood against stains but you need to let it dry.

• Once you are done with primer, use oil based paint to paint the lacquered furniture. Use two coats of paint to finish the painting process.

Making a good headboard for your full sized bed

Never buy only the headboard. You may have to pay a premium price, if you happen to purchase just one headboard for your bed, because headboards are sold in sets. There are simple measures, and if those are followed rigorously, you can always create a good matching headboard for your full sized bed.

1. Begin with measuring the distance between the floor and top of your bed.

2. Now cut two headboard strips which are perhaps 30 inches more than what you had already measured.

3. Use sand paper to clean the headboard strips.

4. Use a wooden plank, and attach the strip on the plank. Use nails to attach the strip onto the plank. Make it firm so that plank holds the strip tight.

5. Again put the second plank over the strip to complete the headboard.

6. Paint the headboard with a matching colour to give it a refreshing look.

Painting stripes on your chair

You need a paint to make it look more attractive, and possibly to have a newer look.

Follow the few steps listed below to paint stripes on your chair.

• Start your proceedings by washing your chair with water and soap. After this allow the surface to dry.

• If this is the first paint on a chair, you can use a primer, otherwise leave out primer.

• Choose paint colour and use high gloss latex paint to put stripes on the chair.

• Take the help of painters tape and a chalk to mark the stripes. Use a paint brush to apply paint on the surface, between the two tapes, to create stripes.

• Leave the tape for at least 24 hours to have the best effect.

Separating your bunk beds

Bunk beds are the best way to go because they can be separated into two. Though, not all bunk bed separates into two, if you bunk bed is made up of metal, then it won’t get apart, but wooden bunk beds do get separate in most cases.

If you choose to separate bunk beds and decide to make them a twin bed, first look at your bed to identify whether your bunk bed can be separated. If yes, then proceed to separate bunk beds into two.

The separable bunk beds will have pins attached, and you will be able to recognize that the bunk bed in question can be separated or not. Simply lift the upper bed. Take the help of your partner to do so. Pull the upper bed, and the bunk bed separates into two.

Now remove the pins away from the bottom bed so that you can again attach the separated bunk beds later.
