Wiring your Home with Cat5 cabling

A Cat5 network is useful to create a more secure system in your home.

Instructions

1. The network router and each desired Cat5 outlet should be located and marked.

2. Holes should be drilled in the wood framing of the house from the router to each outlet. The holes should be in the center of the wood wires should be run at least 12-18 inches away from home electrical wires.

3. The Cat5 cable should be run from the router to each outlet.

4. The RJ45 modular jacks should be connected to each wire at the router end using the cable crimper. The jack should be turned over to expose the wire connections which are numbered one through eight, going left to right.

5. The Cat5 keystone jack is connected at the outlets in the same pattern as the last step. A visual color indicator is provided by the keystone jack for the connections.

Installing the Electrical Box inside your Straw Bale House

Since the late eighteen hundreds straw bale homes have been known. Due to their use of renewable resources and high energy efficiency they have been revitalized recently. Special arrangements for electrical and plumbing must be made during construction due to their unique design. The installation of electrical boxes is done in a unique way.

Instructions

1. The electrical box is attached to the end of the long wood stake with the screws.

2. Decide the location where you want to install the electrical box and clear the area. The size and depth of the hole should be according the size of the electrical box.

3. The stake is pushed into the hole until the front edges of the box rest about one inch from the bail. This is done so that some space is left to apply the plaster after you finish the wall surface.

4. The electrical wire is inserted into the box with the holes provided.

Hanging a Wall Mounted Lamp

Instructions

1. An electrical cable should be run from the switch to the location of the lamp. The cable should be run, one end through each hole and down to the switch and the light.

2. The cable should be connected to the switch by attaching the black wire to the bottom terminal. The white wires coming from the circuit and going to the light should be screwed together. The ground wires should be attached to the green ground terminal.

3. The other end of the cable should be connected to the back of the electrical box.

4. The adapter plate should be fixed to the electrical box.

5. The white wire from the fixture and the white wire in the electrical box should be twisted together and screwed. The process should be repeated with the black wires, and the ground wires.

6. The wires should be pushed into the electrical box and the fixture should be set in place.

Extending the Wires in the installation of your Ceiling Fan

For attaching a ceiling fan to any location on a ceiling, the electric wires should be extended so that you can pull them through the ceiling to a junction box.

Instructions

Wire Nut Wiring

1. Approx. 1 inch of insulation should be stripped from the end of one of the electric wires which are connected to the ceiling fan. The exposed end of the wires should be twisted to form a rod.

2. Approx. 1/4 inch off the ends of the rod should be cut. A wire nut should be screwed over the exposed end of the wire.

3. This procedure of cutting and twisting a wire should be repeated with one of the wires from the extension wire. The rod should be twisted from the extension electric wire around the rod from the wire attached to the ceiling fan.

4. The wire nut should be screwed onto the two rods tightly.

5. The entire procedure should be repeated with the other wire from the extension electric wire and the other wire from the ceiling fan.

Changing the Bulbs in your Swivel Ceiling Lights

Instructions

1. A stepladder or regular ladder should be placed under the light bulb that you want to change.

2. A pole-mounted bulb changer should be raised up to the swivel light which can be purchased at most hardware stores.

3. The suction cup or steel fingers of the bulb changer should be attached directly onto the light bulb. The pole should be rotated to the left and the light bulb should be unscrewed. If the light bulb can not be screwed, then the pole should be pulled downward until the light bulb comes out of its holder.

4. A new bulb should be placed into the suction cup or steel fingers of the bulb changer and the pole should be raised to the lamp. The pole should be rotated to the right and the light bulb should be fixed into the holder.

5. The swivel lamp should be pushed back into the original position.

Gang the Electrical Boxes

Instructions

1. The number of additional switches or outlets should be counted that are required to gang together in the electrical box.

2. The side-plate retaining screw on the bottom left-hand side of the electrical box should be removed. By turning the screw counterclockwise using the appropriate tip screwdriver it should be removed it from the mounting bracket.

3. The side plate of the box should be removed by pulling the plate tongue out from the slot which is situated at the opposite end of the retaining screw mount.

4. The side plate of the box should be removed which is to be joined to the first box in the same manner as instructed above.

5. The add-on box should be attached by pushing the tongue end of the box into the slot present in the first box.

6. The retaining screw should be installed in the mounting bracket and tightened.
